Collaborative interventions lead to a co-authorship of urban space meaning the architect's role is being diminished

  1. I see the role of the architect as an experimental pioneer of not only spatial planning but everything that encompasses the lives of the inhabitants of the concepts that are materialised. In short perhaps we need to consider a different vantage point in as much that Architects can therefore develop solutions to problems that may not have been considered for whatever reason. Additionally, whilst acting as integrated citizens keeps the common ground evident, perhaps sometimes we need to step away form the microcosm and look at the issue from an outsider's point of view whilst not loosing a sense of empathy for the client.

  2. If the role of the architect is to play God - the designer - the position has naturally diminished as society's control of the construction industry evolves. Increasingly the modern architect must focus on fire safety, environmental factors, exit points. Even projects dedicated to form must increasingly pander to the interests of function. If the artist is the pure designer, the architect is the painter who has the colours chosen for them.
